Changes for Bicycle/Pedestrian Access to YBI and TI Beginning July 6th through October 3, 2021
Required for upcoming Southgate Road Realignment Project construction
Upcoming construction related to Southgate Road Realignment Project will close bicycle/pedestrian access for a three-month period on Yerba Buena Island, and the YBI Vista Point to be closed from September 7, 2021 through October 3, 2021.
BICYCLISTS: NO ACCESS ON WEEKDAYS/WEEKENDS/HOLIDAYS:
During the period from Tuesday, July 6, 2021 to Friday, October 3, 2021, there will be NO ACCESS for bicycles between the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge (Bay Bridge) bike path (where it meets Yerba Buena Island) and Treasure Island.
During this period bicyclists will NOT be able to travel between the Bay Bridge Bike/Pedestrian path landing on Yerba Buena Island and Treasure Island via Macalla Road. Macalla Road will be inaccessible from the Bike/Pedestrian Path Landing on Yerba Buena Island.
The Vista Point facilities will be completely CLOSED for use from September 7, 2021, through October 3, 2021.
Since there are no pedestrian facilities currently along Macalla Road, there will be no pedestrian access at any time during the period of Tuesday, July 6, 2021 to Friday, October 3, 2021.
The Vista Point facilities will be completely CLOSED for use from September 7, 2021 through October 3, 2021.

ABOUT THE SOUTHGATE ROAD REALIGNMENT PROJECT:
The Southgate Road Realignment Project (Southgate) will realign Southgate Road, the critical local connection between the I-80 westbound and eastbound on- and off-ramps and reconstruct/reopen the I-80 eastbound off-ramp to Yerba Buena Island (YBI). This project is being administered by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA).
This project is part of a larger effort to replace and retrofit key roads and on- and off-ramps that connect the I-80 (the highway on the Bay Bridge) and Yerba Buena Island. The SFCTA is working jointly with the Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA), the United States Coast Guard and the Treasure Island Community Development (TICD) agency on this effort.
IMPROVEMENTS BRINGING GREATER SAFETY FOR BICYCLISTS/PEDESTRIANS:
The Southgate Project, along with transportation projects being administered by TIDA/TICD, will result in improved conditions for bicyclists and pedestrians when it is completed. These improvements will include a dedicated bike path along Macalla Road and a sidewalk for pedestrians. Both of these improvements will enhance public safety and provide greater access to/from Treasure Island.
