Development Plans and Entitlements Approved
The Board of Supervisors’ unanimously passed the Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island Development project in June, 2011, creating future jobs, much needed housing, parks and open space, enhanced transit and growth of San Francisco’s communities. Mayor Edwin M. Lee issued a statement commending the Board of Supervisors for thoughtfully considering the sensible and smart urban development plan. The project will create 8,000 new homes, with a special emphasis on housing for homeless or formerly homeless families and individuals through the City’s unique partnership with the Treasure Island Homeless Development Initiative. The project is estimated to generate 2,000 construction jobs annually and 3,000 permanent jobs, with 50% of these jobs targeted for San Franciscans and 25% of those jobs targeted specifically to low income or formerly homeless San Franciscans.
