Support "Shop Dine in the 49" On-Island
San Francisco has again launched a citywide campaign this holiday season to raise the visibility and importance of buying local, called Shop & Dine in the 49. In collaboration with Shop Small and San Francisco’s Buy Local campaign, Shop & Dine in the 49 promotes local businesses and challenges residents to do their shopping and dining within the 49 square miles of San Francisco, including on Treasure Island.
By shopping, eating, drinking, playing, and utilizing local services within our neighborhoods, we help San Francisco’s corridors and local businesses to remain unique, successful, and vibrant.
Full message from Mayor Ed Lee about "Shop and Dine in the 49":
Last year, we launched San Francisco’s Shop and Dine in the 49 local shopping initiative during the holidays. Our campaign was tremendously successful because of all of you – the residents and visitors of San Francisco who directed their shopping to local stores and restaurants and experienced the gems in their own neighborhood and across our City’s diverse neighborhoods.
Shopping local supports small businesses, which helps to keep communities unique and helps to build strong and vibrant merchant corridors. Every dollar spent at local businesses in San Francisco directly supports jobs and our local economy.
San Francisco has over 90,000 registered businesses including more than 7,700 restaurants, cafes, food stores, and beverage establishments that employ approximately 326,000 local residents. We understand the power of a 1 percent increase in spending at our local restaurants and retailers would generate an additional $100 million for our local San Francisco economy.
As we approach the holiday shopping season once again, we are re-launching the Shop and Dine in the 49 into a year round effort where merchants and neighborhood corridors will be hosting events to invite you to shop, dine and explore with your family and friends.
We want every business to be part of this campaign and put up a Shop and Dine in the 49 window decal at your business. It’s easy to sign up. Simply go to our website www.shopdine49.com.
Join Anita and I to Shop and Dine in the 49! Let’s support our local businesses by pledging to shop local and to help maintain San Francisco’s diversity and distinctive flavor.
