Treasure Island Causeway Traffic Switch and YBI Q-10 Park/Cove Beach Access Closure

Landside access to YBI Quarters 10 Park and Clipper Cove Beach closed until approximately March, 2021

Treasure Island Community Development (TICD) will switch all traffic lanes on the Causeway between the intersections of Macalla Road and Clipper Cove from the  current eastern half of the Causeway to western half of the causeway on Monday, June 15, 2020.  As part of the traffic switch, the pedestrian pathway on eastern half of the Causeway from Clipper Cove Detour Road to Quarters 10 will be closed to the public on Monday, June 15, 2020. 

Yerba Buena Island Quarters 10 Park and Clipper Cove Beach landside access closure through March, 2021:

Due to this work and associated traffic lane shift, aandside access to YBI Quarters 10 Park and Clipper Cove Beach will be interrupted until approximately March, 2021.  Clipper Cove Beach will still be accessible by waterside for daytime use by recreational boaters anchored in Clipper Cove and for Treasure Island Sailing Center camps and classes.  YBI Quarters 10 Park will be closed to recreational boater access at this time.

In preparation for reconstruction of the eastern half of the Causeway, the Beach's northern portion (as delineated by the existing wooden staircase from Quarter 10 parking lot to the beach) will be closed off starting Monday, June 15, 2020 to March 2021. Southern portion of the Clipper Cove Beach will remain open. 

The Treasure Island community can expect the following starting on June 15, 2020:

  • Pedestrian pathway from Clipper Cove Detour Road to Quarters 10 parking lot on the eastern side of the Causeway will be closed to public.
  • Water access to southern portion of Clipper Cove Beach will not be affected by this closure, but the northern portion of Clipper Cove Beach will be closed to the public.
  • There will be no landside access to/from the beach and YBI Quarters 10 Park except for Emergency Personnel.  Emergency response vehicles will be able to access YBI Quarters 10 Park and Clipper Cove when necessary.
  • TICD anticipates restoring pedestrian access to YBI Quarters 10 Park and Clipper Cove Beach by March 2021
  • Recreational boaters disembarking onto Clipper Cove Beach will be unable to access Treasure Island Road, nor will they be able to access any landisde destinations on Treasure Island, during this closure period.

Treasure Island Causeway traffic switch on June 15, 2020:

Treasure Island Community Development (TICD) will switch all traffic lanes on the Causeway from the current eastern half of the Causeway to western half of the causeway on Monday, June 15, 2020.   All other currently open streets and traffic circulation on Yerba Buena Island and Treasure Island will not be affected by this traffic switch. Over the last 8 months, the western half of the Causeway has been reconstructed to improve the resiliency of the Causeway in seismic events.

The Treasure Island community can expect the following between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Monday, June 15, 2020:

· Vehicles travelling to Treasure Island via Treasure Island Road or Macalla Road will be directed by flaggers and signage to the western half of the Causeway.  At the bottom of the Causeway vehicles will be able to turn onto the Clipper Cove Detour or enter the Building One parking lot as they currently do.

· Vehicles leaving Treasure Island will be directed by flaggers and signage from Clipper Cove   Detour to the outbound lane on the western half of the Causeway.

· The first inbound MUNI 25 bus stop at the bottom of the eastern half of the Causeway will be temporarily closed until July 05, 2020 when the new inbound and outbound bus stops at Building 1 will be re-established. 

· The current pedestrian pathway on the eastern side of the Causeway will be closed. It will remain closed until March 2021.

· Contractors will install striping, barricades, and additional signage to close the eastern side of the causeway and facilitate the detour of traffic onto the western half the causeway.

The Treasure Island community can expect the following starting Tuesday, June 16, 2020:

· The current crosswalk at Clipper Cove Way from the Building 1 Market/Marina Parking lot to the Clipper Cove Way Pedestrian Path and Treasure Isle Marina entry will remain unaffected by this traffic switch.

· Access to YBI Quarters 10 Park parking lot will be limited to emergency vehicles.

· No other roadways on YBI or TI will be affected by this work.
