Treasure Island Arts Plan Phase 1 Finalist Proposals Unveiled

Public review and feedback opportunities available through April 13th

The San Francisco Arts Commission, on behalf of the Treasure Island Development Authority, plans to commission three large-scale permanent public artworks for Building 1 Plaza, Waterfront Plaza, and Hilltop Park, located on Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, as the first in a series of artworks for the Treasure Island Art Program.  Click here for full information on the Treasure Island Arts Program.

Phase 1 Finalists:

Three artists have been chosen as finalists for each of the three project opportunities by the Treasure Island Art Selection Panel to create site-specific conceptual proposals.

  • Waterfront Plaza: Antony Gormley, Jorge Pardo, Ai Wei Wei
  • Building One Plaza:  Chakaia Booker, Ai Wei Wei, Pae White
  • Yerba Buena Hilltop Park: Chakaia Booker, Andy Goldsworthy, Hiroshi Sugimoto,

Public review and comment on Phase 1 Finalist Proposals:

Proposals for each of the three sites are on now on display through Thursday, April 5th on Treasure Island in the lobby of Building One, located at One Avenue of the Palms. Following that, the proposals will be on display in the ground floor lobby of the Veteran’s War Memorial Building, located at 401 Van Ness Avenue.  Each site will have a notebook for public comments which will be shared with the Selection Panel. Although public comments do not constitute a vote, this is a way for the public to have a voice in the process. The Selection Panel will recommend one proposal for each site for implementation. The Selection Panel also has the right to reject all proposals, if not deemed appropriate for the site.

Selection Panel:

The Final Selection Panel meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 17, 10:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. at 401 Van Ness Avenue, Room 125. All Artist Selection Panel meetings are open to the public.
