No longer an active Naval installation, Bay Area residents and visitors from around the world are encouraged to take advantage of all the Islands' public use and recreation opportunities as "San Francisco's newest neighborhood", while respecting the Island's residents, the Island community and the Island's natural areas.
Certain appropriately marked areas are off-limits to the public due to access limitations, construction activity, and on-going U.S. Navy environmental restoration activity.
